This workshop is intended for participants who already have some knowledge of drawing, as well as for participants who are inspired by fine drawings, especially from the Northern Renaissance. In this workshop you will learn to draw with silverpoint. Silverpoint is a drawing technique that dates back to the 13th century and was a favorite technique of famous Renaissance artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.
Compared to charcoal or pencil, silverpoint has the characteristic of being much more subtle and has a stronger permanence. We will also teach you which old master and contemporary methods to use to correct your mistakes. In silverpoint drawing, every line is a thought. This technique trains your eyes to be more accurate when drawing or painting.
In addition to the drawing itself, you will also learn important information on how to integrate silverpoint into your painting practice. There are many practical reasons why Renaissance artists used silverpoint, for example as a study of light and shadow in a portrait or for underdrawing directly on the canvas.
