This workshop is designed for participants interested in classical painting techniques and seeking to connect with the tradition of the Old Masters. In this workshop, you will learn the art of egg tempera painting.
Egg tempera is one of the oldest painting techniques, used since ancient times, and was the preferred technique of many famous artists of the Italian Renaissance, including Leonardo da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, and Hieronymus Bosch.
Compared to modern acrylic or oil paints, egg tempera is characterized by its unique transparency, luminosity, and layering of colors. You'll learn how to properly mix and apply egg tempera, achieving impressive results through layering and fine detail. You'll also learn how to correct common mistakes and work with old-master techniques to fully appreciate the beauty of this method.
In addition to the painting technique itself, we will also show you how to incorporate egg tempera into your artistic practice. You will understand why this technique was used by Renaissance artists to achieve fine color nuances and subtle lighting effects, and what role it plays in the tradition of Western painting.
plays.A 5-day workshop with 30 instructional hours. Classes take place Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There is a lunch break from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The workshop will be taught in German and/or English. We will ask you about your language skills for this purpose.
